Song Hye-kyo doesn't want to hear any more about Jeon Ji-hyeon.
Make that Song's recent "off-the-record" comment about an old candidate list for the upcoming film "Hwangjin-y". Producers for the film had named several top Korean beauties for the role of the legendary gisaeng (courtesan) and Song and the long-legged sex icon Jun were included on the list.
"I think Song heard about [herself] being compared to Jun a lot even after she got the role and while she was working on Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007", said Lee Choon-yeon, the head of Cine 2000, the producer of the film, speaking earlier this month. "That really pushed her [to work harder]".
 http://kunjungiobjekwisata.blogspot.com/
Song was never on his mind when he and fellow producers started out the search for the most famous (and coquettish) Joseon Dynasty woman who entertained noblemen with her talents to easily master classic literature, dance, music and conversation. At the time, Jun was the girl on producers' mind, as well as Soo-ae, who was in contrast known for her traditional elegance.
"I heard that Song was interested in the role at first, but honestly, I was not very thrilled to hear that", Lee said. "She was a top star but she still had that cute image from credit card commercials and that's not Hwang Jin Yi".
He added that he was only thinking of ways to put her down.
Song used to be an actress with a lot of buzz, until her 2005 film "My Girl and I" (directed by Jeon Yoon-soo) failed in the market, hurting her reputation as one of the top television stars.
Song has been on a vigorous diet since then. She lost her trademark chubby cheeks. Her agency occasionally released profile photos of the "new, sexy Song Hye-kyo" over the Internet, proving the rumors that she is working hard to make a grand comeback.
The producers for "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007", had apparently liked the "new Song" a lot. They selected her over Jeon Ji-hyeon or Soo-ae.
"We were more or less all surprised by her will and desire to be in Hwangjin-y", Lee said adding that he is now quite satisfied with their decision they made seven months ago over the two other actresses.
The life of Hwang Jin Yi has been adapted to many television dramas, theatrical plays and novels. The popularity for the historical character reached its peak last year when actress Ha Ji-won played Hwang in an SBS TV drama "Hwangjin-i".
Much of filming for the upcoming cinematic version has been shot in the Mount Kumkang area with the help of Hyundai Asan, the South Korean company that runs the tour to the mountain in North Korea. Hwang is said to be born in the region, which is now part of North Korea. The film is mainly based on the novel written by North Korean author Hong Seok-jung.
As for rumors that buzzed in the film industry last week that this film may have the chance to open in North Korea when it opens in the South in June, the producers said nothing has been confirmed.
"Of course we want our film to be opened there", said Kang Eun-gyeong, a team head from Laughing Boa, the promoter of the film. "But some media went overboard and wrote that North Korea has allowed our film to open there when nothing has been confirmed".

"Le Grand Chef" Whets Appetites at AFM

Released locally November 1st, Show East's cooking drama "Le Grand Chef" is drawing strong interest from buyers at the 2007 American Film Market, currently running Oct 31 – Nov 7 in LA. The film has been sold to Festive Films for Singapore and Taiwan, to Sundream for Hong Kong, to A.O.E. for Malaysia and to M Pictures for Thailand. Talks to take the film to China are also being negotiated.

Directed by Jeon Yoon-soo, known previously for melodramas such as "My Girl and I" (2005) and "Besame Mucho" (2001), "Le Grand Chef" moves out of the bedroom and into the kitchen. The film is anticipated locally for its parallels with pan-Asian hit Korean TV drama "Jewel In the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum"), which had a palace cook as its chief character.

The film is based on a best-selling graphic novel by Heo Yeong-man, which also raises expectations for locals after the successful adaptation of another of HEO's novel's resulted in the 2006 hit "Tazza: The High Rollers" ("The War Of Flower"). The new film tells the story of a pair of young chefs who enter a tense cooking rivalry to win a long-lost knife used centuries before by the 'Grand Royal Chef' a title given to the top male chef in the country who cooked for royal banquets. During the Japanese occupation, the last Grand Royal Chef used the knife to cut off his arms in refusal to cook for the Japanese.

Show East is billing the film as Korea's first feature to deal intimately with culinary creation. Park Chul-soo's "301, 302" touched on the subject of cooking, but "Le Grand Chef" is the first to focus entirely on the world of gourmet cuisine. The film stars Kim Kang-woo and Im Won-hee as the competing chefs, and TV actress Lee Ha-na as a network producer assigned to capture the competition.

Song Hye-kyo Makes U.S. Debut in Indie Flick

Following Jang Dong-gun and Jeon Ji-hyeon, actress Song Hye-kyo will also make her U.S. screen debut. But instead of heading to Hollywood, the 25-year-old left for New York Nov. 21 to take part in a low-budget independent film project.

In the psychological thriller "Fetish", Song will play the role of a Korean woman with supernatural powers, who possesses an American woman's body in order to steal her husband. She will star opposite Austrian actor Arno Frisch, who is well known from the 1997 film "Funny Games".

Korean filmmaker Son Soo-peom will helm the project. The New York University graduate is the silver medallist of the 2002 Student Academy Awards and was invited to the Cannes Film Festival that same year for his short films. Sohn makes his feature film directorial debut with "Fetish".

Casting director Susan Shopmaker ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch", Michael Kang's "The Motel" and "West 32nd") took note of Song in her latest film "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" at the Pusan (Busan) International Film Festival in October. She was reportedly impressed by Song's beauty, which has both Eastern and Western charms, according to Song's management agency Sidus HQ.

Most of the dialogue will be in English with some Korean. Song has been polishing her English during visits to New York and through lessons here, according to Sidus HQ.

The actress shot to hallyu superstardom through her roles in TV dramas "All In" and "Full House", but she was not so lucky on the big screen, with "My Girl and I" and "Hwangjin-y - Movie - 2007" garnering lukewarm responses.

"Fetish" is expected to become a stepping-stone for Song's international debut. "Song Hye-kyo has been receiving offers from Hollywood. While carefully looking through the scripts, she chose this one because it establishes a common ground between East and West", Na Byeong-jun from Sidus HQ told Yonhap.

The story begins with events that had happened six months before the man died.
Did Lee Joon-soo really kill himself? He had a lover named Hong Da-ae.
And somehow he was also linked to middle aged housewife named Yoon Hye-jin. But what exactly was their relationship? The drama traces events in the past and present to reveal the intricate web of story arcs.

More sophisticated and more luxurious...
